Patna: Bihar’s tourist destinations come alive during the monsoon, with waterfalls, forested hills, reservoirs and heritage sites offering visitors a refreshing escape. The lush green landscapes and mist-covered valleys have made several locations across the state popular among travellers during the rainy season.
According to the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, tourist destinations developed across Bihar are emerging as preferred choices for nature enthusiasts. Officials say the monsoon enhances the natural beauty of these sites, making them comparable to hill stations.
Waterfalls Transform Rohtas into a Monsoon Attraction
Rohtas district is home to some of Bihar’s most visited waterfalls during the rainy season, including Tutla Bhawani Waterfall, Manjhar Kund and Dhua Kund.
At Tutla Bhawani, a stream cascades down rocky cliffs beside the Maa Bhawani Temple, creating a combination of natural scenery and religious significance. Visitors also flock to Manjhar Kund for its flowing waterfall and to Dhua Kund, where the rising mist adds to the experience.
Sasaram Railway Station is the nearest railhead for tourists travelling to these attractions.
Scenic Destinations Across Bihar
Other prominent monsoon destinations include Kakolat Waterfall in Nawada, the Durgawati Reservoir in Kaimur district, the Barabar Hills and Barabar Caves in Jehanabad, and the Nature Safari and Zoo Safari in Rajgir.
The Durgawati Reservoir is known for its expansive water body, green hills and tranquil surroundings. In Rajgir, visitors can combine wildlife experiences with panoramic views while exploring the safari and ropeway facilities.
Most of these destinations are located about 150–180 km from Patna, making them suitable for short road trips during the monsoon.
Rajgir Ropeway Tickets Available Online
Tourists visiting Rajgir can also enjoy the ropeway, with online ticket booking available through the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation.

The fare is Rs 120 per person for the cabin ropeway and Rs 100 for the chairlift. For foreign tourists, the charges are Rs 250 for the cabin ropeway and Rs 150 for the chairlift.
