Bhagalpur: The Eastern Bihar Industries Association (EBIA) has welcomed the Bihar government’s draft MSME Policy-2026, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening industrial development and entrepreneurship in the state. The association said the proposed policy gives special attention to Bhagalpur and could enhance its position as a major industrial centre in Bihar.
Focus On Bhagalpur’s Industrial Growth
In a press release, EBIA President Alok Agarwal said the policy proposes a state-of-the-art technology and extension centre in Bhagalpur. According to him, the centre will provide training, technical assistance and entrepreneurship support for local industries and businesses.
Agarwal also said Bhagalpuri silk has received special recognition under the traditional industries category, a move expected to strengthen cluster infrastructure and promote exports. He added that Bhagalpur’s maize, litchi and honey have been included under the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, which could help farmers and entrepreneurs expand their access to international markets.
Incentives And Employment
According to EBIA, the draft policy includes an additional 5% capital subsidy for enterprises investing in backward districts, a provision the association believes will benefit industries in Bhagalpur.
The association also noted that the policy targets the creation of 10 million jobs across Bihar. Agarwal said Bhagalpur’s silk, agriculture and service sectors are well placed to contribute to this employment objective.
Industry Body Suggests Further Measures
EBIA General Secretary Amartya Bandhul urged the state government to establish a Silk Export Facilitation Center in Bhagalpur to support exporters. He also called for incubation laboratories to promote agro-processing, development of Bhagalpur as a logistics hub by leveraging the Ganges River and railway connectivity, and the creation of an entrepreneurship cell at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University to strengthen industry-academia collaboration.
EBIA Public Relations Officer Sumit Jain said the draft policy has the potential to position Bhagalpur as a leading MSME hub for both Bihar and Eastern India if implemented effectively.
