Patna: Meta has launched the Meta Business Agent in India, introducing an artificial intelligence-powered assistant designed to help businesses automate customer support, sales and routine operations on WhatsApp. The announcement was made on Wednesday during the company’s third annual business summit in Mumbai.
The company also unveiled the Meta Business Agent platform for large enterprises and announced new business discovery features within WhatsApp aimed at helping users find merchants more easily.
AI-Powered Customer Support
According to Meta, the Business Agent enables businesses to offer round-the-clock customer support by responding to customer queries, recommending products from a merchant’s catalogue, booking appointments and assisting with sales conversations.
The AI tool also provides conversation summaries, customer insights and notifications about missed interactions. Businesses can configure the system to transfer conversations to a human representative whenever required.
Enterprise Platform For Large Businesses
Speaking at the launch, Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head of Meta India, said AI is reshaping business operations and that the Meta Business Agent is designed to help businesses improve customer engagement, increase operational efficiency and support growth.
Meta said the enterprise platform allows large organisations to build, customise and deploy AI-powered business agents at scale. It integrates with existing business systems, including Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee, and works with the WhatsApp Business Platform.
The company added that businesses such as Swiggy, Madhulika Enterprises and Kazen Adventures are already using the platform for customer support, lead management and operational workflows.
New Business Discovery Features
Alongside the AI announcements, Meta introduced new business discovery tools for WhatsApp. Users will now be able to search for business names directly through WhatsApp Search and share business contacts with friends and family from within the app.
According to the company, the features are intended to help users discover businesses without leaving WhatsApp, while making it easier for merchants to connect with potential customers.
Earlier this month, Meta also introduced a token-based pricing model for the WhatsApp Business Platform as part of its broader AI and business services strategy.
