Patna: Bihar Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra on Thursday reviewed the progress of the Sherpur-Dighwara project, a major component of the proposed Patna Ring Road, and directed officials to complete the work on schedule while maintaining quality and safety standards.
During an inspection of the project site, officials informed the minister that construction is progressing according to plan and that efforts are being made to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
Minister Calls For Early Completion
“Today, I inspected the construction site of the Ganga bridge and approach road at Dighwara under the Patna Ring Road (NH-131G) project and reviewed the progress of the work with the concerned officials. We conducted a detailed assessment of the project’s progress, construction quality and execution timeline,” the minister said.
He added: “Although the project’s scheduled completion is March 2029, I have directed all executing agencies to work towards completing it by December 2028 through better coordination, adequate manpower and dedicated efforts. This project will play a key role in strengthening Patna’s transport network and will provide faster, safer and more efficient connectivity to Chhapra, Siwan, Gopalganj and Hajipur.”

The Sherpur-Dighwara project spans approximately 14.52 kilometres and includes the construction of a six-lane bridge measuring about 9.678 kilometres across the Ganges.
The project also features supporting infrastructure such as viaducts, railway overbridges, ramps, underpasses and service roads designed to accommodate future traffic demand.
Expected To Improve Regional Connectivity
According to the Road Construction Department, the project will reduce the travel distance between Sherpur and Dighwara by around 30 kilometres, cutting travel time and fuel consumption.
Once operational, vehicles travelling towards Chhapra, Siwan, Gopalganj and Hajipur will be able to bypass Patna city, providing an alternative route for long-distance and heavy traffic.
Officials said the project is expected to ease traffic congestion in the capital and strengthen regional connectivity.

Other Infrastructure Projects Reviewed
The minister also reviewed the progress of several major infrastructure projects being implemented by the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited.
These included the Sasaram Bypass, the high-level bridge over the Mahananda River and the bridge over the Kosi River.
Officials also discussed the status of the Chhapra double-decker flyover, the Karbigahiya flyover, the Aguwani-Sultanganj Ganga bridge and the Munger Bypass.
According to the state government, these projects are expected to improve Bihar’s road network, facilitate trade and investment, and support long-term regional development.
