NIFT Patna Hosts Khadi Mahotsav, Celebrating India’s Iconic Fabric

Patna: The Khadi Mahotsav took place at NIFT Patna, celebrating the historical significance of Khadi and its evolving role in modern fashion. Chief Guest Maya Shankar inaugurated the event, reflecting on the importance of “Vande Mataram.” Colonel Rahul Sharma, Director of NIFT Patna, welcomed the attendees and commenced the ceremony with the lighting of the lamp.
A panel discussion explored Khadi’s cultural and historical impact, with Bhairav Lal Das from INTACH Patna tracing its origins to ancient times and the Indian independence movement. Ashok Sinha from Bihar Museum elaborated on Khadi’s connection to Bihar’s heritage, while Dr. Md. Hanif Mevati from KVIC (MSME) encouraged students to explore Khadi’s economic and environmental advantages on a global scale.
The event also featured performances by Pandit Ronu Majumdar on the flute and Dr. Shyam Pandit on the tabla, adding a cultural layer to the celebration. The finale showcased a Khadi Fashion Walk, with NIFT Patna students presenting innovative designs made from Khadi fabric.
The Mahotsav paid tribute to Khadi’s legacy while promoting its relevance in contemporary fashion, blending tradition with modernity.
