Patna: Companies have shown comparatively limited interest in offering employment opportunities in Bihar through the National Career Service (NCS) portal, according to official registration data. While more than 5.74 million employers have registered on the portal nationwide, only about 269,000 have opted to provide employment opportunities in Bihar.
The NCS portal, operated by the Union government, allows registered employers to choose the states where they wish to recruit job seekers. The number of registrations for a state reflects the willingness of employers to consider candidates from that region through the platform.
Maharashtra Leads Employer Registrations
Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of employer registrations on the NCS portal, with 1,038,868 companies expressing interest in hiring there.
Other major states have also attracted significantly higher registrations than Bihar. Uttar Pradesh has 590,927 registered employers, followed by Tamil Nadu with around 370,000, Rajasthan with 351,000, West Bengal with 327,137, Madhya Pradesh with 324,000, Gujarat with 300,000 and Karnataka with 292,000.
Among other states, Telangana has around 243,000 registered employers, Andhra Pradesh 184,000, Odisha 180,000, Assam 158,000 and Jharkhand 108,207.
Significance for Job Seekers
Employer registrations on the NCS portal play an important role in recruitment drives organised by state and central government agencies.
In Bihar, companies registered on the portal for the state are eligible to participate in government-supported job fairs. These events provide employment opportunities to job seekers by connecting them with registered employers. A larger pool of participating companies can expand the range of jobs available to unemployed youth.
Employer Interest Has Increased Over Time
Although Bihar trails several states in overall registrations, year-wise data indicates that employer participation has grown substantially over the past decade.
Only two companies registered for Bihar during the 2015–16 financial year. The figure increased to 49 in both 2016–17 and 2017–18, before rising to 95 in 2018–19.
Registrations climbed to 775 in 2019–20, followed by 757 in 2020–21 and 615 in 2021–22.
A significant jump was recorded in 2022–23, when 39,598 companies registered for Bihar. The upward trend continued with 68,155 registrations in 2023–24 and 86,368 in 2024–25. More than 75,000 companies registered for the state during 2025–26, indicating sustained employer interest despite Bihar’s relatively low overall share of registrations.
