New Delhi/Patna: Bihar Cooperative Minister Ram Kripal Yadav met Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah at Parliament House in New Delhi to review the progress and key challenges facing the cooperative sector in Bihar.
The meeting focused on initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperatives and expanding their role in improving farmers’ access to markets, financial services and government schemes.
Among the issues discussed were the proposed cooperative sugar mill at Sakri in Madhubani, the Bihar State Cooperative Policy-2026, implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, vegetable processing and marketing, the world’s largest grain storage scheme and membership-related issues involving inter-state cooperative societies.
Focus On PACS Computerisation
Yadav also briefed Shah on efforts to computerise cooperative societies across Bihar and develop Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) into Multi-Service Centres.
The discussions also covered expansion of banking services under the ‘Sahkarita Mein Sahkar’ initiative, training for PACS and cooperative officials and efforts to connect cooperative products with national and international markets.
The Bihar minister raised several issues requiring central support, including faster computerisation of PACS, development of Multi-Service Centres, expediting payment of minimum support prices to farmers and ensuring timely release of funds to the State Food Corporation.
Shah Assures Support
Shah appreciated the efforts being made to strengthen the cooperative sector in Bihar and assured the state government of the necessary support and guidance.
The meeting also included discussions on Bihar’s development and contemporary political issues.
