Patna: Bihar is seeing contrasting weather conditions, with rainfall in parts of the state while high humidity and sultry conditions persist elsewhere. The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for 12 districts on Sunday, including an orange alert for five districts and a yellow alert for seven.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in the affected areas, along with the possibility of lightning and strong winds reaching 30-40 km/h.
Five Districts On Orange Alert
An orange alert has been issued for East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran.
A yellow alert is in place for Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Vaishali and Samastipur.
Residents in the affected districts have been advised to exercise caution because of the possibility of lightning strikes and thunderstorms.
Why Is Rain Increasing In North Bihar?
Rainfall activity has increased across north Bihar and Seemanchal, with meteorologists attributing the conditions to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and a persistent low-pressure area.
The low-pressure system is particularly active over northern and western parts of the state. The strengthening of the monsoon trough over the north-western region is also contributing to rainfall.
In southern Bihar, the trough is weaker, resulting in more humid conditions and comparatively less rainfall activity.
Weather To Remain Unsettled For Two More Days
The Meteorological Department expects similar conditions to continue across Bihar over the next two days.
An alert has been issued for parts of south Bihar on August 17, while monsoon activity is also expected to continue across north Bihar and Seemanchal.
A “double alert” has been forecast for August 18, when adverse weather conditions could affect West Champaran, Siwan and Saran, along with other parts of north and south Bihar.
Patna To Remain Humid
Despite increased cloud cover in several districts, significant rainfall was recorded at only one or two isolated locations over the previous 24 hours.
Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Motihari and Darbhanga experienced alternating spells of sunshine and cloud cover, while temperatures rose in several districts.
In Patna, residents are likely to experience uncomfortable humidity on Sunday. Bright sunshine prevailed during the morning, but conditions could change by afternoon, with the possibility of light drizzle.
The capital is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 34°C and a minimum of 28°C.
