Patna: The Bihar government will develop a Sports Science Centre at the State Sports Academy in Rajgir based on the Odisha model, following Cabinet approval for the high-performance sports training and injury centre.
The tendering process for the project is expected to begin next week, according to the Sports Department.
A department team has travelled to Odisha to study its high-performance sports facilities, technology, training systems and sports science operations.
Team To Study Odisha’s Sports Science Model
The Bihar team will examine the systems and scientific facilities available to athletes in Odisha, with a focus on technology, training methodologies and performance assessment.
The findings will guide the design and functioning of the proposed Rajgir centre, with the aim of bringing its facilities in line with modern high-performance sports standards.
Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh said traditional training methods alone are no longer sufficient for athletes seeking success at national and international competitions.
She said scientific assessment of performance, training based on individual physical capacity, injury prevention and mental resilience have become important components of modern sports preparation.
The proposed centre will be Bihar’s first dedicated facility focused on sports science and high-performance training.
Performance Analysis And Sports Medicine
The centre will include a Biomechanics and Performance Analysis Lab to assess athletes’ movements and techniques.
Motion-capture and 3D camera systems will be used to analyse running techniques, throwing actions and jumping postures. Force plates will measure pressure on the feet and ground reaction forces during running and jumping.
The facility will also provide sports physiology and testing services. Advanced treadmills and mask-based analysis will be used to assess athletes’ cardiovascular and oxygen capacity.
Lactate threshold testing will help determine fatigue levels and identify the point at which lactic acid begins accumulating during exercise.
The test results will be used to develop training programmes based on an athlete’s physical capacity and the requirements of their specific sport.
Nutrition And Mental Conditioning
Sports nutritionists at the centre will prepare diet plans according to athletes’ sporting requirements and physiological needs.
Sports psychologists will work with athletes to help them manage competitive pressure, strengthen self-confidence and develop mental resilience.
The proposed integrated facility is expected to bring sports medicine, performance analysis, rehabilitation, nutrition and psychological support together at the State Sports Academy in Rajgir.
