Bihar: Bike Thieves Kill Youth During 14-KM Car Chase on NH-2 in Rohtas
Rohtas: A car chase in Rohtas’s Shivsagar police station area ended in tragedy when bike thieves opened fire on two youths pursuing them. Bhanu Pratap, 36, a resident of Sakri village in the Kudra police station area of Kaimur district, was killed in the firing after attempting to retrieve a stolen bike. The incident occurred early Friday morning around 1:30-2:00 am.
According to Pratap’s cousin, Aman Kumar, he spotted two men stealing their bike from the house. Aman alerted his cousin, and they chased the thieves for 14 kilometers by car, reaching Shivsagar on NH-2. There, they managed to hit the thieves’ bike, causing it to fall into a roadside ditch. As the youths approached on foot, the thieves opened fire, fatally injuring Pratap and then shooting at the car’s tyres before fleeing on foot.
Police officials, including Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar and Kaimur SP Lalit Mohan Sharma, visited the crime scene on Friday morning, joined by forensic and dog squad teams. They reported that information about the suspects has been gathered, and an active search for them is underway. Authorities are confident of making arrests soon based on leads obtained.
Aman Kumar noted that they rushed Pratap to Sasaram Sadar Hospital, where he was declared dead. The family has raised concerns over delayed police response, stating that Shivsagar police did not arrive at the scene despite being informed. After further attempts to contact higher authorities, police only arrived at the hospital nearly five hours later.
SPs from both Rohtas and Kaimur assured that a coordinated investigation between the two districts is ongoing, with further updates expected as leads develop in the case.
