Patna: Around 1.5 lakh female graduates in Bihar could soon receive a Rs 50,000 incentive under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana, with the payment process moving towards its final stage.
The disbursement has gained momentum following approval of the required funds by the Finance Department. The Higher Education Department has subsequently begun the final processing of beneficiary payments.
The incentive is intended for eligible female students who have completed their graduation. The amount will be transferred directly to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Beneficiary data already verified
The Higher Education Department has completed verification of beneficiary records and reviewed the available data up to December 2025.
Based on the government’s estimates, around 1.5 lakh female graduates from universities across Bihar are expected to benefit from the upcoming disbursement.
The DBT mechanism is intended to ensure transparency and eliminate the need for beneficiaries to visit government offices to claim the incentive.
Payments held up for around 2,200 students
During the preparation of the beneficiary list, records of approximately 2,200 students were found to be incomplete. Their payments have therefore been temporarily withheld.
The Education Department has instructed the concerned universities to complete the missing information within one week.
Universities have been asked to upload the required documents and other details on the designated portal. Once the records are completed and eligibility is confirmed, these students will also be included in the payment process.
The department has said the objective is to ensure that eligible students are not denied the benefit because of incomplete data or technical issues.
Financial support for further studies
The Rs 50,000 incentive could provide financial assistance to graduates for further studies, competitive examination preparation and other educational requirements.
Some beneficiaries may also use the money to explore self-employment opportunities. The government views the scheme as a means of encouraging women to pursue higher education and move towards greater economic self-reliance.
With the Finance Department’s approval secured and beneficiary data largely verified, attention is now focused on the commencement of the payment process.
