Patna: Commuters in the capital can now use the Mithapur-Karbigahia and Mithapur-Mahuli overbridges, which were opened for public movement on Friday following their inauguration by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
The two projects are expected to ease traffic congestion in key parts of the city and improve connectivity between Patna and several destinations in South Bihar.
Mithapur-Karbigahia Project to Ease Local Congestion
Construction of the Mithapur-Karbigahia flyover began in 2015, with the initial project cost estimated at around ₹102 crore. However, changes to the design on four occasions pushed the construction cost to more than ₹300 crore.
The first phase of the project was inaugurated on Friday.
The overbridge is expected to provide relief from congestion around Mithapur, Kankarbagh and Karbigahia railway station, which frequently experience heavy traffic.
The flyover has been constructed in two sections to facilitate movement in both directions. There are also plans to connect the Mithapur-Karbigahia overbridge with the Chiriyatand overbridge in the future, which could further improve traffic movement in the area.
Mithapur-Mahuli Overbridge to Improve South Bihar Connectivity
The 2.1-km-long Mithapur-Mahuli overbridge is particularly significant for commuters travelling towards South Bihar.
Once operational, the route is expected to make travel towards Gaya, Aurangabad and Ranchi, among other destinations, more convenient.
People travelling towards Punpun, Bihar Sharif and Rajgir are also expected to benefit from the improved connectivity.
Commuters Can Bypass Congested City Roads
At present, vehicles travelling from Patna towards South Bihar often pass through the city’s inner roads, leading to congestion at several points.
With the Mithapur-Mahuli overbridge now open, commuters will have a faster route towards the southern parts of the state without having to pass through several congested stretches inside the city.
The opening of both overbridges is expected to strengthen Patna’s road network and provide some relief to daily commuters.
