Bihar’s Education Department is considering a proposal to introduce brain mapping for students in government schools to help identify their interests, intelligence profiles and potential career paths.
The proposed initiative, which would be a first of its kind in the state, is expected to combine brain mapping techniques with psychometric testing as part of a broader approach to career guidance.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with senior officials in Katihar, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said the proposed system was intended to help students make academic and career choices based on their interests and abilities.
According to the minister, the initiative could help students select academic streams such as Science, Commerce or Arts without relying solely on examination marks.
Focus on Interests and Abilities
The proposed framework is expected to assess students across different areas of intelligence using established psychological frameworks.
The aim, according to the Education Department, is to provide a more structured form of career guidance and help students make choices that are better aligned with their individual profiles.
The proposal is still under consideration, and details regarding its implementation, including the methodology, the agencies involved and the categories of students to be covered, have not yet been announced.
Part of Wider Education Initiatives
The brain mapping proposal comes alongside other measures being considered by the Education Department for students.
The department is also working on policies related to digital addiction and screen time among children, with expert consultation expected as part of the process.
Separately, Bihar has planned special classes for students preparing for the Matric supplementary examination.
If implemented, the proposed brain mapping initiative could mark a new approach to career guidance in Bihar’s government school system, shifting greater attention towards students’ interests and aptitude alongside conventional academic performance.
