Patna: AIIMS Patna on Saturday hosted a continuing medical education (CME) programme on the emerging role of immunotherapy in head and neck cancer, bringing together specialists from radiation oncology, ENT, surgical oncology and other disciplines.
The programme was organised by the Department of Radiation Oncology on Teachers’ Day and focused on the evolving management of locally advanced head and neck cancer, including the potential use of immunotherapy alongside established treatments.
Experts Discuss Emerging Treatment Approaches
The event was attended by AIIMS Patna Executive Director and CEO Prof. (Brig.) Dr Raju Agarwal, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr) Poonam Badhani, Dean Research Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Pandey and Medical Superintendent Dr Prashant Kumar Singh.
Heads and faculty members from various departments, including ENT, Biochemistry, Nuclear Medicine and Surgical Oncology, also participated in the programme.
The scientific sessions began with Dr Pritanjali Singh, who discussed the fundamentals of immunotherapy and its potential synergies with radiation therapy.
Dr Avinash Pandey, Consultant Medical Oncologist, spoke about the management of locally advanced head and neck cancer.
Focus On Multidisciplinary Care
The discussions examined how immunotherapy is increasingly being explored in combination with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Speakers also highlighted the importance of patient selection, treatment sequencing and multidisciplinary decision-making in determining appropriate treatment strategies.
With many patients presenting with locally advanced disease, the CME focused on the need to translate emerging evidence from clinical research into routine cancer care.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participating faculty members and delegates to discuss treatment approaches and exchange perspectives.
