Patna: Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, currently a judge of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Patna High Court as part of a reshuffle involving the top judicial posts in eight High Courts.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments in a post on X on Saturday, following recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Justice Ravindra V Ghuge of the Bombay High Court has been appointed Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, while Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal of the Chhattisgarh High Court will head the Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court has been appointed Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Other appointments announced by the government include Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as Chief Justice of that court, Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra of the Odisha High Court as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje of the Gujarat High Court as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Justice Kameswar Rao’s background
Justice V Kameswar Rao was born on August 7, 1965. According to available information, he completed his BA (Honours) in Geography in 1987 and obtained his LLB from Delhi University in 1990.
He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in March 1991 and practised before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and the Principal Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal.
He developed expertise in areas including labour, arbitration, constitutional and administrative law.
Rajasthan High Court controversy
The appointments come against the backdrop of controversy in the Rajasthan High Court, where serious allegations had earlier been levelled against its Acting Chief Justice, Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, by Supreme Court judge Sandeep Mehta.
Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal has now been appointed to head the Rajasthan High Court.
