Patna: The IRCTC money laundering case involving RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and members of his family will come up for hearing at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday, September 7.

The case concerns alleged irregularities in the awarding of contracts for the operation and maintenance of IRCTC hotels during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.

Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav and other accused are among the 16 people named in the case. The court may consider framing charges against the accused during the hearing.

What Is the IRCTC Case?

According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), irregularities were allegedly committed in the tender process for awarding contracts to a private company for the operation and maintenance of two IRCTC hotels.

The agency has alleged that the tender process was manipulated and that land measuring around three acres was allegedly acquired through a benami company as an alleged quid pro quo for the hotel contract.

The ED has also alleged links between Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family and the company through which the land was allegedly acquired. These are allegations made by the investigating agency and are subject to judicial determination.

CBI Investigation Was Conducted First

The case was initially investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following which the ED registered a money laundering case and carried out its own investigation.

The ED subsequently filed a chargesheet against 16 accused. The accused have denied the allegations and maintained their innocence.

Previous Hearing Was Deferred

The matter was last heard on August 29, when the court deferred its decision on the issue of framing charges.

Meanwhile, members of the Lalu family have challenged before the Delhi High Court the lower court’s October 2025 order relating to the framing of corruption charges.

The outcome of Monday’s hearing will determine the next stage of proceedings in the long-running IRCTC case.
