Patna: Mining activities in Bihar are set to resume after October 15, according to Mining and Geology Minister Pramod Kumar. The minister said the state government is working to streamline mining operations, prevent illegal mining and increase revenue generated by the department.
The government has made it clear that mining will not resume indiscriminately. Operations at new locations will begin only after obtaining the required environmental clearance and completing the prescribed regulatory process.
Where Will Mining Resume in Bihar?
The announcement has raised questions about the locations where mining activities will restart after October 15. However, the department has not yet released a detailed list of districts or specific sites.
According to the government, new mining locations will be identified based on environmental approvals and completion of the required departmental procedures. Areas that receive the necessary clearance will be eligible for mining operations.
Further details on the approved locations are expected to be announced by the Mining and Geology Department in the coming days.
Mining Revenue Rises by 35.85%
Alongside restarting mining activities, the state government is also focusing on increasing revenue collection.
According to Minister Pramod Kumar, the Mining and Geology Department generated Rs 725 crore in revenue during the financial year 2025-26. By August 31, 2026, the department had already collected Rs 984 crore.
This represents an increase of Rs 259.94 crore, or around 35.85%, compared with the revenue recorded in the previous financial year.
The government has attributed the rise to improvements in departmental functioning and closer monitoring of mining activities.
Govt Plans Recruitment to Curb Illegal Mining
The government is also preparing to strengthen enforcement against illegal mining. The department plans to increase its manpower and improve monitoring mechanisms to ensure that mining takes place only within the permitted regulatory framework.
Minister Pramod Kumar said the recruitment process for police personnel in the Mining Department will begin soon. According to the minister, approval for the recruitment has already been received from the Chief Minister, and the process is now being prepared for implementation.
What Could Change After Mining Resumes?
The resumption of legally permitted mining activities could provide a boost to the construction sector by improving the availability of regulated mineral resources. It could also help the state increase its mining revenue.
However, the key condition remains environmental compliance. Mining will begin only at locations where the required environmental clearances and departmental procedures have been completed.
