Patna: A three-day Gandhi Film Festival will be organised at Bapu Tower in Patna from September 9 to 11, featuring seven rare films based on the life, philosophy and ideas of Mahatma Gandhi.
The festival aims to connect school students, particularly children, and young people with Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence and self-reliance through cinema.
Entry to the festival will be free of charge, and students from various schools have been specially invited to attend the screenings.
Oscar-Winning Film ‘Gandhi’ to Open Festival
The festival will begin on September 9 with the screening of Richard Attenborough’s Oscar-winning film ‘Gandhi’ (1982) at 11 am.
A second screening, ‘Gandhi – Prophet of the 20th Century’ (1940), will be held at 3 pm on the same day.
The second day, September 10, will feature two films. The morning session will screen ‘Mahatma Gandhi Talks’ (1931), followed by ‘A Boundless Idea’ (1970) in the afternoon. The latter explores ideas associated with Gandhian philosophy.
Three Films to Be Screened on September 11
The final day of the festival, September 11, will feature three screenings.
At 11 am, ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ (2005) will be screened. The film explores the relevance of Gandhi’s ideas in a modern context.
The festival will then showcase historical footage-based films, including ‘Noakhali Extracts’ (1946) and ‘South India Tour of Mahatma Gandhi’ (1946).
The three-day festival is intended to provide students and young audiences with an opportunity to understand Gandhi’s life and philosophy through rare cinematic works and historical footage.
