Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Tuesday arrested three government employees while allegedly accepting bribes in three separate cases across Bihar.

The accused have been identified as Aman Kumar, Junior Engineer with MGNREGA in Sadar Block, Jehanabad; Kunal Kumar, a clerk at the District Transport Office (DTO) in Sheikhpura; and Upendra Sah, a Sub-Inspector posted at the Traffic Police Station, Gandhi Maidan, Patna.

According to the Vigilance Department, the three were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting bribes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

JE Allegedly Demanded Rs 20,000 for MGNREGA Work

Aman Kumar was allegedly demanding Rs 20,000, equivalent to three per cent, from a complainant for verification of Measurement Books (MBs) related to three MGNREGA schemes after completion of the work.

The Vigilance Bureau verified the complaint and found the allegations prima facie true before constituting a team to conduct the trap.

Kumar was subsequently caught allegedly accepting the bribe.

DTO Clerk Accused of Demanding Rs 15,000

In Sheikhpura, DTO clerk Kunal Kumar was allegedly demanding Rs 15,000 to facilitate the issuance of a Bihar registration number for a tractor registered with the number UP 3AC 4378.

Following verification of the complaint, a separate Vigilance team conducted the operation and allegedly caught the clerk accepting the bribe.

Patna SI Allegedly Took Rs 10,000 to Release Vehicle

In the third case, Sub-Inspector Upendra Sah, posted at the Traffic Police Station at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, was allegedly demanding Rs 10,000 for releasing a vehicle that had been seized.

The Vigilance Bureau verified the allegation before conducting the trap operation, during which Sah was allegedly caught accepting the bribe.

Separate Vigilance Teams Conducted Operations

According to the department, separate teams were formed under the supervision of Deputy Superintendents of Police of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Patna.

The teams conducted raids after the allegations made by the complainants were found prima facie true during verification.

The accused were taken into custody and further legal proceedings have been initiated.

Two Accused to Appear Before Patna Court

Aman Kumar and Upendra Sah will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna after questioning.

Kunal Kumar will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhagalpur, the department said.

Further investigation into the three cases is underway.

99 Accused Arrested in 99 Trap Cases in 2026

The latest operations come as part of the Vigilance Bureau’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign in Bihar.

According to the department, the three cases represent the 105th, 106th and 107th FIRs registered by the Bureau in 2026.

They were also the 97th, 98th and 99th trap cases of the year.

So far in 2026, the Bureau has caught and arrested 99 accused persons in 99 trap cases.

Rs 36.58 Lakh Recovered in Vigilance Traps This Year

The Vigilance Bureau said its trap operations have resulted in the recovery of around Rs 36.58 lakh in alleged bribe money so far this year.

In one case, a new washing machine valued at Rs 37,000 was also seized as alleged bribe property.

For comparison, the Bureau recovered Rs 37.80 lakh in 101 trap cases during 2025.

The latest arrests highlight the Vigilance Bureau’s continued focus on detecting and prosecuting alleged corruption involving government employees across Bihar.
