Patna: The Bihar government has revised the monthly honorarium for doctors and medical teachers working on a contractual basis in state medical colleges and hospitals.

According to a new Health Department order, the revised rates will come into effect from September 1, 2026. The changes cover contractual professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior residents, tutors and junior residents.

Contractual Professors to Get Rs 2.07 Lakh

Under the revised structure, contractual professors will now receive Rs 2.07 lakh per month.

The monthly honorarium for contractual associate professors has been fixed at Rs 1.55 lakh, while assistant professors will receive Rs 1.25 lakh.

The revised rates will apply to eligible contractual doctors and teachers serving in government medical colleges and hospitals across Bihar.

Senior Residents and Tutors to Get Rs 1.15 Lakh

The government has also revised the honorarium for senior residents and tutors.

Both senior residents and tutors will now receive Rs 1.15 lakh per month under the new structure.

The move is aimed at improving the compensation structure for contractual medical professionals working in the state’s medical institutions.

Junior Residents to Receive Rs 75,000

The honorarium for junior residents has also been increased.

Under the revised rates, junior residents will receive Rs 75,000 per month.

With the latest revision, the government has fixed separate honorarium rates for contractual medical teachers and resident doctors based on their respective positions.

New Rates Effective From September 1

The revised honorarium rates will be effective from September 1, 2026.

The Health Department has issued necessary directions to the concerned institutions for implementing the revised payment structure.

The decision is expected to provide financial benefits to contractual doctors and teachers working in government medical colleges and hospitals.

Health Minister Nishant Highlights Healthcare Benefits

Health Minister Nishant said the increase in honorarium would provide encouragement to doctors and teachers working in medical colleges and hospitals.

According to the minister, better remuneration could help improve the morale of medical professionals and contribute to strengthening healthcare services across the state.

The government also expects the move to support medical education as well as patient-care services in state-run medical institutions.
