Two Killed, Several Injured in Accident at Patna University Metro Station

Patna: An accident at Tunnel 1 of Patna University Station’s underground metro line led to the tragic loss of two lives and injuries to eight workers due to a mechanical failure in the locomotive around 10 p.m. yesterday. While two workers, Manoj Behera (27) and Bijaya Kumar Behera (36), succumbed to their injuries, one remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at Mediversal Hospital. Five others sustained minor injuries and were discharged after first aid.
The postmortem examinations of the deceased have been completed, and arrangements are being made to send their bodies to their native places. DMRC has committed to providing ex-gratia compensation to the families of the deceased, and additional compensation as determined by the labor department will be covered by the contractor, L&T.
DMRC’s headquarters has dispatched a team to investigate the incident, assessing the circumstances and identifying necessary remedial measures to prevent future incidents. As the turnkey consultant for the Patna Metro project, DMRC has assured that a full investigation will be conducted.
DMRC continues to assess the situation and will implement appropriate safety protocols to enhance worker protection on the site.
