Patna: With summer vacations in full swing, passenger traffic at Patna Junction has surged sharply, resulting in overcrowded platforms, long queues at ticket counters, and a scramble for reserved seats in north- and south-bound trains. On Friday, the station witnessed chaotic scenes as travellers jostled for tickets and space in packed trains.
The demand for train travel, especially to Delhi, has soared, leaving most trains fully booked. According to railway officials, the Tejas Rajdhani Express is completely booked till July 7, while over a dozen trains including Sampoorna Kranti, Garib Rath, Poorva Express, and Seemanchal Express have long waiting lists extending till July 11.
Special Trains Deployed to Ease Rush
To accommodate the growing number of passengers, the railways has introduced several special trains from and to Patna and other parts of Bihar. These include:
- Charlapalli-Patna-Charlapalli (07255/07256)
- Patna-Charlapalli (03253)
- SMVB Bengaluru–Danapur (03260, 03252)
- Danapur–SMVB Bengaluru (03259, 03251)
- Chandigarh–Patna–Chandigarh (04504/04503)
- Udhna–Jayanagar–Udhna (09067/09068)
- Udhna–Samastipur–Udhna Special (09069/09070)
- Pune–Danapur–Pune Special (01417/01418)
These trains are expected to offer relief to passengers who have been unable to secure confirmed tickets in regular services.
Security Tightened at Patna Junction
In view of the heavy rush, railway authorities have beefed up security at Patna Junction to prevent any untoward incidents. Additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel have been deployed to manage crowds and ensure smooth operations.
Change in Halts for Ziyarat and Azimabad Express
In a significant operational change, two important long-distance trains will now halt at Idgah Agra Junction instead of Agra Fort:
- 12395 Rajendranagar–Ajmer Ziyarat Express will reach Idgah Agra Junction at 7:35 AM
- 12948 Patna–Ahmedabad Azimabad Express will reach Idgah Agra Junction at 12:40 PM
This adjustment aims to decongest the Agra Fort station and better facilitate passengers travelling to western India and Rajasthan.
Passengers are advised to plan their travel in advance and check real-time availability and schedule changes through official railway platforms or inquiry counters.
