The Bihar Education Department has asked districts to submit updated details of schools affected by floods, including the extent of damage to buildings and educational resources.
The department held a meeting with district education officials and directed them to assess the current situation of flood-hit schools in their respective districts.
Officials have been asked to provide details of how many schools have been affected, their present condition and the extent of damage caused by the floods.
Teachers To Be Deployed In Relief Camps
The department has also directed officials to deploy teachers from schools where classes have been disrupted to relief camps housing enrolled students.
Education Department Special Secretary Dharmendra Kumar said the deployment is being undertaken so that children staying in relief camps can continue their studies despite the disruption caused by flooding.
The department has stressed that children’s education should not be interrupted even during a disaster.
Damage To School Infrastructure To Be Assessed
District Education Officers have been instructed to conduct a detailed assessment of damage caused to school buildings by floodwater.
The assessment will also cover educational materials, furniture and other essential resources available in the affected schools.
Officials have been asked to submit clear and updated information so that the department can determine the overall impact of flooding on the state’s education system.
Reports To Help Plan Further Action
The district-wise reports will help the Education Department identify the schools requiring attention and assess the extent of damage caused by the floods.
The information can be used to plan repairs to damaged school buildings, replacement of educational resources and measures to restore normal classes once flood conditions improve.
At the same time, the deployment of teachers to relief camps is intended to provide continuity of learning for students who have been displaced from their schools.
Floods Affect Schools In Several Areas
Bihar faces recurring floods during the monsoon, with rising water levels in rivers including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Punpun and Son affecting low-lying areas.
According to the report, several rivers are flowing above danger levels, with flooding affecting multiple areas of the state. In some locations, school buildings have been surrounded by floodwater, disrupting regular classes.
The Education Department’s latest directions are aimed at assessing the damage while ensuring that students living in relief camps continue to receive education during the flood situation.
