Patna: Bihar is likely to experience active weather on Friday, September 11, with the Patna Meteorological Centre forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in the northeastern parts of the state.
According to the weather forecast issued on September 10, winds of 30–40 kmph may accompany thunderstorms and lightning in northeastern Bihar. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas.
Northeastern Districts To See Strong Winds And Lightning
The forecast indicates a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by 30–40 kmph winds in northeastern Bihar on September 11.
Districts including Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Saharsa, Purnea and Katihar are among the areas likely to experience these conditions.
Residents in these districts have been advised to monitor weather updates, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and lightning.
Siwan Records 68.4 Mm Rain
Several parts of Bihar received significant rainfall during the previous 24 hours.
Maharajganj in Siwan recorded 68.4 mm of rainfall, the highest reported in the state during the period. Mainatand recorded 62.8 mm, followed by Kauakol with 60.5 mm, Sherghati with 54 mm and Nabinagar with 52.4 mm.
The weather department also recorded strong winds in some areas, with winds reaching 50 kmph in Madhubani.
Temperature Likely To Remain Stable
Despite the changing weather conditions, no major change in temperatures is expected across Bihar over the next few days.
On September 11, maximum temperatures are forecast to remain around 32°C to 36°C in different parts of the state. North-central, northwestern and northeastern Bihar may see maximum temperatures of 34°C to 36°C, while parts of south-western and south-central Bihar may remain around 32°C to 34°C.
Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 24°C and 30°C in most areas. Parts of south-western, south-central and south-eastern Bihar could record minimum temperatures of around 24°C to 26°C.
Weather Outlook Through September 16
The weather is expected to remain changeable across Bihar through the coming week.
On September 12, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in northeastern and southeastern Bihar. On September 13, similar conditions may develop in southwestern parts of the state.
The weather department has issued no specific warning for September 14 and 15.
On September 16, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph are again likely in northwestern, north-central and northeastern Bihar.
IMD Advises Caution During Lightning
The weather department has advised residents to take precautions during thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain.
People caught outdoors during thunderstorms should move to a safe, permanent building and stay away from tall trees and electricity poles. Heavy rainfall may also increase the risk of rising river levels and waterlogging in low-lying urban areas.
With Bihar already dealing with flood-related conditions in several districts, residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert as rainfall and river levels continue to be monitored.
