Patna: Bihar is preparing to integrate vocational education with regular academics for students from classes 6 to 12, with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) developing the implementation strategy with technical support from UNICEF.
Teachers will be trained to conduct vocational courses in schools. A two-day residential consultative workshop will be held in Patna on September 16 and 17 as part of the preparations.
The workshop will bring together district-level vocational nodal officers, along with one science teacher and one social science teacher from each district.
Vocational Courses In 555 Schools
Vocational education is planned for 555 schools across Bihar. Students in classes 9 to 12 will be able to select one of the trades allocated to their respective schools.
The programme aims to provide students with practical and employable skills while they are still in school. The training is intended to help them pursue employment or develop skills for self-employment and income generation.
Two Trades In Each School
Each participating school will offer two vocational trades. The allocation of trades will be managed at the District Education Officer (DEO) office level.
Job roles have also been mapped to individual trades, allowing students to understand the employment opportunities associated with the skills they acquire.
For example, under the Electronics and Hardware trade, students in classes 9 and 10 may receive training for roles such as Junior Technician – Solar EV Charging Station. Students in classes 11 and 12 will receive further employability-focused training, including skills related to solar panel installation.

The vocational training programme will cover eight trades:

– IT
– Plumbing
– Agriculture
– Apparel
– Made-ups and Home Furnishing
– Retail
Documents Required For Workshop
Teachers attending the September workshop have been asked to bring photocopies of their Aadhaar card, PAN card and bank passbook.
Participants must also submit their details through the designated Google Form by September 14. The information will be used to make accommodation arrangements at the training venue.
