Patna: The Bihar government has approved 17 major proposals, including the appointment of 366 assistant professors on a contractual basis in five government medical colleges and recruitment against vacant teaching posts at the state’s Government Dental College.

The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday. The medical faculty appointments will be made in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms to ensure adequate teaching staff at the institutions.

The five medical colleges covered by the decision are Government Medical College, Bettiah; Government Medical College, Purnia; Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College and Hospital, Madhepura; Government Medical College, Chhapra; and Shri Ram Janki Medical College, Samastipur.

Dental College Vacancies To Be Filled

The government has also approved contractual recruitment against vacant posts at the Government Dental College.

The appointments will cover positions including professors, associate professors, readers, lecturers and assistant professors.

The move is aimed at addressing faculty vacancies and ensuring that medical and dental institutions have the required teaching strength.

Rs 2.10 Crore For Palm Oil Cultivation

The Agriculture Department has received approval to spend Rs 2.10 crore during the 2026-27 financial year under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm programme.

The initiative will encourage farmers to take up palm oil cultivation and promote crop diversification in the state.

The government has also approved Rs 89.79 crore for makhana development, with a focus on strengthening the sector from production to export.

Another Rs 78.34 crore has been approved for horticulture development, covering areas such as fruit, flower and mushroom cultivation.

The initiatives will also support the development of agricultural infrastructure and provide farmers with skill-development training.

Rs 2,520 Crore Plan For Vishnupad Temple Area

A major infrastructure and tourism decision involves the development of the Vishnupad Temple area in Gaya.

The government has approved a Rs 2,520 crore development plan for the area on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.

The project is expected to strengthen infrastructure around the temple and support the development of Gaya as a major religious and tourism destination.

Rs 996.05 Crore For Son-Falgu River Linking

The government has also approved Rs 996.05 crore for the Son-Falgu river-linking project.

Together, the Vishnupad Temple development plan and the river-linking project involve an approved investment of Rs 3,516.05 crore.

Petrol Pumps Planned Near Bihar Jails

The government has approved the Kara Petroleum Retail Outlet Operation Rules, 2026, allowing petrol pumps to be established on vacant land near prisons.

Under the plan, Indian Oil will operate outlets at the Purnia and Muzaffarpur jails, while Hindustan Petroleum will operate petrol pumps at the Buxar and Bhagalpur jails.

The companies have been selected through a nomination-based process.

Airports And Heliports To Be Developed

The government has also approved measures for the development of airports across Bihar under the Modified UDAN Scheme.

In addition, heliports will be developed in different districts to improve regional air connectivity.

The proposed facilities are expected to support emergency services and tourism, while better air connectivity could help connect smaller cities and districts with wider regional networks.

The move is also expected to support trade, tourism and employment opportunities by improving access to air services.

17 Decisions Cover Multiple Sectors

The approved proposals span medical and dental education, agriculture, horticulture, tourism, river infrastructure, prison-related infrastructure and aviation connectivity.

The decisions combine immediate measures to strengthen faculty availability in medical institutions with longer-term plans for infrastructure development, agricultural diversification, tourism and regional connectivity across Bihar.
