Patna: Monsoon activity remains weak across Bihar, with no significant spell of heavy rain expected in the state on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain or drizzle at isolated places in nine districts, while rainfall activity is likely to increase after September 22.
The districts likely to receive rain on Monday include West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj and Purnia. Isolated rainfall is also possible in parts of central and southern Bihar.
According to the forecast, weather conditions are likely to remain broadly similar over the next two to three days, before rainfall activity increases. Several districts could receive heavy rain from September 24.
Rain brings relief to Patna
Patna experienced humid and uncomfortable weather for most of Sunday before the weather changed around 7 pm, when several parts of the city received a spell of heavy rain.
The rainfall brought down temperatures and provided relief from the humidity. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.5 degrees above normal.
Rain was also reported from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Supaul and Banka during the past 24 hours, while cloudy conditions prevailed over Khagaria.
In Banka’s Barahat police station area, a young man died after being struck by lightning, while two others were injured.
Dehri records highest rainfall
Rainfall activity remained weak across Bihar during the past 24 hours. Dehri in Rohtas recorded the highest rainfall at 21 mm.
Several locations in and around Patna also received rain. Garkha recorded 8.4 mm, Dulhin Bazar 8.2 mm, Kurtha 8 mm, Maner 2.4 mm and Bihta 2.2 mm.
Heavy rain forecast in several districts from September 24
The weather is expected to become more active from September 24, with heavy rain forecast in several districts.
- September 24: Heavy rain is expected in Banka, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Katihar, Kishanganj and Purnia.
- September 25: Heavy rain is likely in Aurangabad, Begusarai, East Champaran, Gaya, Munger, Samastipur, Siwan, Vaishali and West Champaran.
- September 26: Heavy rain is possible in Aurangabad, Bhabua, Rohtas, Siwan and West Champaran.
The IMD’s current warning information also indicates increasing weather activity over parts of eastern India in the coming days.
Patna weather forecast
Patna is likely to remain warm over the next few days. The maximum temperature could reach around 35°C on September 21 and 22, with the minimum remaining around 28°C.
On September 23, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 35°C and the minimum around 27°C.
A slight fall in temperature is possible on September 24, when the maximum could be around 34°C and the minimum around 27°C. Partly cloudy conditions with rain or thundershowers are likely, indicating a change in weather conditions.
Bihar records 37% rainfall deficit
Bihar continues to face a significant rainfall deficit during the 2026 monsoon season. According to the figures provided, the state has received 586.3 mm of rainfall so far, against the normal rainfall of 925.5 mm for the corresponding period — a deficit of 37%.
Several districts have recorded substantial shortfalls. The reported deficit is around 88% in West Champaran, 93% in Sitamarhi, 79% in Saran, 67% in Vaishali, 90% in Patna, 85% in Gaya and 79% in Jamui.
Some districts have reported even larger deficits in recent rainfall measurements. Jehanabad recorded 2.4 mm, around 97% below normal, while Rohtas recorded 1.2 mm, about 72% below normal. Bhojpur recorded 0.2 mm, around 98% below normal, and Arwal recorded 1.3 mm, about 63% below normal.
East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka and Khagaria are among the other districts showing significant rainfall deficiency.
