Patna: Bihar’s digital paperless registration process is gradually gaining momentum, with nearly 12,000 documents registered through the paperless system during the first 15 days of September, generating more than Rs 126 crore in revenue for the state government, according to the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department.
Despite opposition from document preparers across the state, the number of paperless registrations has continued to show a positive trend. At present, an average of around 1,000 documents are being registered digitally every day, the department said.
The department expects the daily average to cross 1,500 paperless registrations in the coming week, indicating a further increase in the adoption of the digital registration system.
Paperless registration launched in July
The paperless registration facility was introduced in July and has gradually gained acceptance among citizens.
During the first month, around 1,200 documents were registered through the paperless system. The number increased to more than 6,700 in August, generating over Rs 85 crore in revenue for the department.
The registration process is based entirely on the e-Registration software, through which several stages of the process have been digitised.
How Bihar’s paperless registration works
The system enables document preparation and provides for computer-based automatic calculation of registration fees, along with facilities such as e-challan, e-stamp and Aadhaar-based e-signature.
According to the department, the digital process reduces the time required for registration and lowers dependence on physical paperwork.
Applicants can complete the registration process from home or through the nearest facilitation centre, making the service more accessible without requiring extensive paperwork.
