Patna, September 24: Bihar Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit held a high-level review meeting on Thursday to assess law and order, public safety and administrative preparedness across the state.
The meeting was conducted through video conferencing, with all district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) directed to participate.
According to a release from the Chief Secretary’s Office, the meeting focused on strengthening field-level policing, improving response to crime and maintaining public safety, particularly ahead of the upcoming festival season.
SPs Told To Take Responsibility For District Law And Order
The Chief Secretary directed SPs to take full responsibility for maintaining law and order in their respective districts.
He stressed the need for stronger patrolling and more frequent field visits, with monitoring to be extended to the subdivision level.
The release said laxity in work would not be tolerated and that action should be taken against officers whose performance is found to be unsatisfactory or who are not taking their responsibilities seriously.
Police Asked To Stay Active On Roads
Police units were directed to remain mobile and alert and establish checkposts at strategic locations wherever required.
The objective is to enable quicker intervention and strengthen surveillance in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activity.
Amrit also referred to recent instances of prompt police response and cited the Jamui police as an example of timely action, according to the government release.
Headquarters Officers To Conduct District Visits
To strengthen monitoring, police officers from headquarters will be assigned to specific districts.
These officers have been directed to undertake field visits and stay overnight in the districts, allowing them to assess law and order arrangements and ground-level conditions directly.
The move is intended to improve reporting and ensure that information reaching the state headquarters reflects the situation on the ground.
Extra Vigilance Ahead Of Festivals
With the festival season approaching, DMs and SPs were instructed to maintain additional vigilance across their districts.
Officials have been asked to strengthen local intelligence networks and ensure that public-safety arrangements remain effective during the period.
District administrations and police will also need to coordinate closely to respond to incidents and maintain public order.
Rapid Action Against Fake News
The review also covered the spread of misleading information that could affect social harmony or public peace.
According to the release, authorities have adopted a rapid-action approach towards such information and directed officials to take prompt legal action against those found responsible, in accordance with applicable law.
District Performance To Be Monitored
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chief Secretary said the performance of DMs and SPs would be continuously evaluated.
The assessment will consider their response to incidents, feedback from the public and the security situation visible at the ground level, according to the release.
The directions come as Bihar prepares for the upcoming festival season, with district authorities and police being asked to strengthen preparedness, field monitoring and coordination.
