Patna: Bihar is preparing to strengthen its textile and allied manufacturing sector, with Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur being developed as important industrial centres.
The planned expansion is aimed not only at establishing manufacturing units but also at creating an interconnected industrial ecosystem that can generate local employment, support skill development and encourage ancillary industries.
Muzaffarpur is emerging as a centre for leather, footwear and textile-related manufacturing, while Bhagalpur is seeking to build on its traditional identity as a silk-producing centre by expanding into modern textile and manufacturing activities.
Mega Leather and Footwear Park Coming Up in Muzaffarpur
A Mega Leather and Footwear Accessories Park is being developed at Mahbal in Muzaffarpur over approximately 62.17 acres.
The park is expected to accommodate production units involved in bags, footwear, leather products and textile-related manufacturing.
Industrial infrastructure is also being expanded in the Bela Industrial Area and Mahbal, with additional industrial sheds being developed to support manufacturing activities.
Modern Production Unit Starts Operations
A modern production unit of High Spirit Commercial Ventures, spread across approximately 43,000 square feet, has started operations in the textile park.
The development is expected to strengthen Muzaffarpur’s manufacturing ecosystem and create opportunities for related businesses and suppliers.
Bhagalpur Expands Beyond Traditional Silk Industry
Bhagalpur, popularly known as the Silk City, is also diversifying its textile manufacturing base.
Alongside its traditional silk industry, the district is moving towards manufacturing bags, footwear and hosiery products.
The expansion could help connect Bhagalpur’s established textile skills and production base with newer manufacturing opportunities and markets.
Focus on Jobs and Supporting Industries
The proposed industrial developments are intended to generate employment closer to where people live.
Beyond direct jobs in factories and production units, the projects could support employment in logistics, packaging, raw-material supply, services and other ancillary industries.
Skill development and industrial training are also expected to play a role in preparing local workers for the expanding manufacturing sector.
Bihar Eyes Wider Markets
The geographical location of Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur could also support the movement of finished products to markets beyond Bihar.
The industrial centres have the potential to serve markets in neighbouring states as well as Nepal and Bhutan, depending on production capacity, logistics and market connectivity.
Gaya’s Integrated Manufacturing Cluster Also Being Developed
Bihar’s industrial expansion is not limited to Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur.
An Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) is being developed at Dobhi in Gaya, with the first phase targeted for commissioning by mid-October.
The development is expected to add another major industrial centre to the state’s growing manufacturing network.
Bihta Dry Port to Support Market Connectivity
The dry port being developed at Bihta is also expected to play a role in connecting products manufactured in Bihar with major seaports and international markets.
Improved logistics connectivity could help manufacturers transport finished products more efficiently and strengthen Bihar’s prospects as a manufacturing destination.
