Patna: The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from all parts of Bihar as of October 14, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With monsoon activity receding, the state is likely to experience predominantly dry weather, although daytime sunshine and humidity may continue to cause discomfort.
The weather is expected to remain generally normal across Bihar, with no major change anticipated immediately after the monsoon’s withdrawal. While clear skies could lead to warm daytime conditions, temperatures during the early morning and night may gradually decline as the season progresses.
Monsoon withdraws from Bihar on October 14
According to the weather update cited in reports, the southwest monsoon withdrew from the entire state on October 14. The withdrawal marks the end of the main monsoon season in Bihar, reducing the likelihood of widespread rainfall.
However, the withdrawal of the monsoon does not mean temperatures will fall immediately. Strong sunshine during the day, combined with humidity, may continue to make conditions feel warm, particularly in urban areas.
Over the next few days, dry conditions are likely to prevail across much of the state. Localised changes remain possible if clouds develop or other weather systems become active.
Patna may continue to experience heat and humidity
Patna is also likely to experience generally dry weather, with sunshine during the day potentially adding to the discomfort caused by humidity.
Rather than an immediate onset of cold weather, residents may experience warm afternoons and relatively cooler mornings and evenings. A gradual seasonal transition is expected during the second half of October.
Residents are advised to follow the IMD’s latest district-level forecasts for updates on rainfall and temperature changes.
Could El Niño delay the onset of winter?
The possible influence of El Niño has raised questions about the timing and intensity of the coming winter. El Niño is a climate phenomenon associated with warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean and can influence weather patterns in different parts of the world.
Some meteorological assessments have suggested that temperatures could remain above normal during the coming months, potentially delaying the onset of sustained winter conditions in parts of India.
However, the impact of El Niño on Bihar’s winter will depend on broader atmospheric and regional weather patterns. A warmer-than-normal outlook does not necessarily mean that cold spells will not occur.
Colder conditions may develop later in winter
Temperatures are likely to fluctuate through the winter season. January and February could bring colder conditions, depending on prevailing weather systems, western disturbances, fog formation and changes in wind direction.
Some areas could also experience cold-wave conditions if temperatures fall significantly. The timing and intensity of such spells will depend on local weather developments.
For now, Bihar is entering the post-monsoon period, with dry weather and warm afternoons likely to precede the gradual arrival of cooler conditions.
