Patna : The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Thursday conducted searches at four locations linked to Chandrashekhar Singh, an executive engineer in the Rural Development Department, in connection with a disproportionate assets case involving alleged assets worth around Rs 1.10 crore.
The searches were carried out at locations in Patna, Saran district, Katihar and Siliguri in West Bengal. Singh is currently posted in Chhapra, the headquarters of Saran district.
According to reports, vigilance officials recovered around Rs 5 lakh in cash from properties in Patna and Katihar. The searches also focused on property documents, financial records and other assets to establish whether Singh’s declared income corresponds with his known assets.
Cash And Jewellery Recovered During Searches
Officials reportedly recovered around Rs 3 lakh from a flat in Patna and approximately Rs 2 lakh from a residence in Katihar. Jewellery weighing around 250 grams was also reportedly found at the Katihar property.
The search teams examined documents related to bank accounts, investments, property ownership and other financial transactions. The findings are being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Land In Wife’s Name Under Scrutiny
Investigators are also examining 92 decimals of land—equivalent to around 31 katthas—in the Phansidewa police station area of Darjeeling district, West Bengal. The land is reportedly registered in the name of Singh’s wife, Shweta Kumari, and was purchased in 2021.
The property is said to be located near a national highway. Its market value has been described in reports as potentially running into crores of rupees, although an official valuation has not been established in the information available.
According to reports, the land was not included in the engineer’s asset declaration for the financial year 2025–26. Investigators are examining the circumstances of its purchase, the source of funds and whether the property should have been disclosed.
Investigation Into Disproportionate Assets
The case centres on allegations that Singh accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The bureau’s searches are intended to gather documents and other evidence relevant to the allegations.
The recovered cash, jewellery and property records will need to be assessed alongside income details, financial transactions and ownership documents to determine whether the assets can be accounted for.
