Patna: The impact of Cyclone Arnab has begun to be felt in Bihar, with cloudy skies reported in Patna and Begusarai. The India Meteorological Department’s Patna Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for rainfall in 26 districts of the state on Thursday, October 29, warning of heavy rainfall in six districts.
The districts under the heavy rainfall warning are Bhojpur, Arwal, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert during adverse weather conditions, as intense rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupt road traffic.
According to the weather department, the impact of Cyclone Arnab is likely to be more pronounced on October 29 and 30. Rainfall activity is expected to continue across Bihar until October 31, with light to moderate rain in several areas and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.
Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also likely in some areas, accompanied by the possibility of lightning strikes.
Cyclone Arnab Crosses Andhra Pradesh Coast
According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Arnab crossed the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on the morning of October 28. At the time of landfall, the cyclone had maximum sustained wind speeds of 125 to 135 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 150 kmph.
After crossing the coast, the system weakened and moved into the category of a severe cyclonic storm. It is expected to move north-northwestwards over the next 48 hours and gradually weaken.
Rain, Waterlogging May Affect Traffic and Crops
Persistent rainfall could cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and on roads, potentially affecting traffic and transport services across parts of Bihar.
Strong winds and heavy rain may also damage standing crops, banana and papaya plantations, and other trees and plants. Farmers and residents have been advised to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions as the state prepares for continued rainfall through October 31.
Weather Forecast for Patna
Patna is also expected to experience the effects of Cyclone Arnab, with rain, possible lightning and strong winds in some areas. Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas during lightning activity.
