AIIMS Patna and Max Hospital Team Up for Life-Saving AHA Course as Emergency Training Gains Pace

AIIMS Patna has partnered with Max Hospital to deliver its fourth AHA-certified emergency care training programme, reinforcing its focus on lifesaving clinical skills.

PATNA: AIIMS Patna has launched its fourth American Heart Association (AHA)-accredited Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider course in partnership with Max Hospital, Delhi, marking another milestone in the institution’s push to enhance emergency medical training in India. The three-day programme kicked off on Sunday, 5 May, with BLS sessions, and will continue with ACLS modules on 6 and 7 May. Held under the aegis of the Department of Emergency Medicine, the course is designed to equip doctors, nurses, and other frontline healthcare workers with internationally recognised skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, cardiac arrest management, and team-based emergency response.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by some of AIIMS Patna’s most senior medical professionals. Prof Dr Subrata Sinha, president of the institute, presided as chief guest, while executive director and CEO Prof Dr Saurabh Varshney joined as guest of honour. They were accompanied by Dr Ruchi Sinha, dean of academics; Prof Dr Anup Kumar, medical superintendent; Prof Dr Mukta Agarwal, head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology; and Dr Ratish Nair, principal of the nursing college. The course is being held under the supervision of Dr Divendu Bhushan, head of emergency medicine at AIIMS Patna. Speaking at the launch, Dr Bhushan highlighted the critical need for structured emergency care training, particularly in resource-limited settings. “Timely and skilled intervention can mean the difference between life and death,” he said. “We’re proud to offer a programme that adheres to global standards.”

Participants will undergo hands-on training using simulation-based tools and real-time assessments. With cardiovascular diseases continuing to be the leading cause of death in India, the emphasis on advanced life support techniques has never been more pressing. Officials noted that the course not only strengthens in-house capabilities but also serves as a model for public health training across Bihar and neighbouring regions. The collaboration with Max Hospital brings additional expertise to the table, combining institutional strengths for a common goal: improving patient survival rates during medical emergencies.
