Ambuja Cements Announces Rs 1600 Crore Investment for New Cement Grinding Unit in Bihar
Nawada: Ambuja Cements Limited, part of the diversified Adani Portfolio, has announced a significant investment of ₹1600 crore to establish a new cement grinding unit in Bihar. This venture, the Warisaliganj Cement Grinding Unit, marks Ambuja Cements’ first foray into the state and represents the largest investment in Bihar by a cement industry player.
The facility, located in Mosama village, Tehsil Warisaliganj, District Nawada, will have an overall capacity of 6 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) and will be developed in three phases. The first phase, with a capacity of 2.4 MTPA, will involve an investment of ₹1100 crore and is expected to be operational by December 2025. Future expansions are planned, utilizing the provisioned land at a lower capital expenditure. The site is strategically situated near major transport links, including the Warisaliganj railway station and State Highway 83, ensuring excellent connectivity.
This project aims to meet the increasing infrastructure demands of Bihar, aligning with the priorities outlined in the recent Union Budget.
At a foundation stone-laying ceremony hosted by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), Hon’ble Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “This investment by the Adani Group is a testament to Bihar’s growth potential and our commitment to fostering sustainable development for the people of Bihar,” he stated.
The project is expected to boost the state’s infrastructure significantly, contributing approximately ₹250 crore annually to Bihar’s fiscal revenue and creating 250 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Hon’ble Industry Minister Nitish Mishra. Representing the Adani Group, Mr. Pranav Adani, Managing Director (Agro, Oil & Gas) and Director of Adani Enterprises Limited, was also present.
Mr. Pranav Adani highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, saying, “This aligns with the State Government’s development programs and our growth plans. The cement industry is witnessing healthy volumes due to the government’s infrastructure thrust, and Ambuja Cements is well-positioned to support sustainable infrastructure development in the country. We look forward to collaborating with the state government, authorities, and local communities on this and future projects. The State Government’s support in fast-tracking and provisioning all necessary permits has made this landmark investment possible in a short time.”
BIADA has allotted 67.90 acres of land for the Warisaliganj unit, with environmental clearance already secured. The unit is scheduled to be operational by December 2025. Additionally, Ambuja Cements Limited has been allotted 26.60 acres of land by BIADA for another cement unit in the industrial area of Mahbal, Motipur, Muzaffarpur.
