Patna: Anand Mishra, a former IPS officer who left the police force to pursue a political career, has resigned from his role as Youth President of Bihar-based Jan Suraaj Party. His departure comes just ahead of the state assembly elections, amid rising speculation of his potential return to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Mishra, who unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent from Buxar, had originally resigned from his post in the police service with the expectation of running on a BJP ticket. After the ticket was denied, he ran independently, finishing fourth but outperforming all other independents, including local strongman Dadan Pehelwan.
Sources close to Jan Suraaj party suggest that Mishra had been increasingly absent from key meetings, including the core committee session that elected former Purnea MP Uday Singh as party’s national president. In a swift reshuffle, State President Manoj Bharti announced Professor Shantanu of Muzaffarpur as the new head of the party’s youth wing.
Prashant Kishor, the political strategist behind Jan Suraaj, is now navigating shifting alliances. With former Union Minister RCP Singh—once a JD (U) senior functionary—now aligned with the party, observers say Jan Suraaj is recalibrating its strategy in anticipation of the Bihar assembly elections expected later this year.
Mishra’s political future remains uncertain, but many speculate he may once again seek entry into the BJP, the party he initially trusted when taking the plunge into politics.
