Araria BDO, Accountant Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs 1.5 Lakh Bribe

Araria: The Bihar Special Vigilance Unit on Tuesday night arrested Block Development Officer (BDO) Ritam Chauhan and his accountant Aditya Priyadarshi after catching them red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh at the Raniganj block office.
The operation was carried out by a 12-member team from the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU), Patna, with assistance from Raniganj police. The raid took place at the official residence of the BDO, where both accused were caught in possession of the bribe amount. According to sources, the money was allegedly demanded in return for approving government-related work.
The entire action stemmed from a formal complaint by Raniganj Deputy Chief Kalanand Singh, who reported that the BDO had demanded ₹1.5 lakh as a bribe. Singh reached Patna on Monday and submitted the complaint to the vigilance department. Acting swiftly, the SVU team launched a raid at around 10 PM on Tuesday and arrested the accused on the spot.
Post-arrest, the vigilance team began search operations at the BDO’s residence and office, examining official documents and files. The investigation is aimed at uncovering further financial irregularities and misuse of power.
The late-night action has sent shockwaves through the local administrative machinery in Araria, triggering demands for stronger anti-corruption measures. Several locals and public representatives praised the prompt action and urged the government to continue taking strict steps against corrupt officials.
