Patna : Auto-rickshaw unions in Patna have announced a citywide chakka jam (road blockade) on May 20, in protest against the Bihar government’s implementation of a route colour-coding system for autos and e-rickshaws.
The decision was made during a union meeting on Sunday, chaired by Raj Kumar Jha, head of the Auto and E-Rickshaw Union. Jha criticised the administration for enforcing the colour code policy without first establishing adequate auto stands across the city. “The decision to regulate vehicles through colour codes must be rolled back,” he said, arguing that it places undue burden on drivers without addressing operational infrastructure.
The unions are also demanding stricter oversight of private agencies involved in issuing driving licences, alleging corruption and irregularities. They have urged the government to organise a 15-day documentation correction camp at Gandhi Maidan to help drivers whose papers have been invalidated.
Senior representatives from multiple associations participated in the meeting, including leaders from the Bihar State Auto Drivers Association, Auto Men’s Union, Patna District Auto Rickshaw Drivers Association, and others. They have collectively vowed to escalate protests if their concerns are not addressed.
