Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama Four-Lane Inspected, Set to Boost Connectivity

Patna : Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected and inaugurated the long-awaited Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane highway (NH-31) today, a project aimed at enhancing connectivity between Patna and north Bihar.
The 44.6 km highway, a Greenfield project launched in June 2017, faced several delays due to land acquisition challenges and rising costs. Initially budgeted at Rs837 crore with a deadline of December 2020, the project’s cost escalated to Rs1,167 crore, pushing its completion to March 2023. Despite these setbacks, the highway is now operational and expected to provide smoother and faster travel for commuters.
Speaking at the inspection, CM Nitish highlighted the transformative impact of the highway on the region’s connectivity and economy. “This road will not only ease traffic but also enhance trade and economic activity between Patna and the neighbouring districts,” he said.
The Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing work on the Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur road and directed officials to expedite its completion. Senior officials, including Road Construction Minister Jayant Raj and Patna District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, were present at the event.
