BAU Scientist Saurav Guha Wins Cochran-Hansen Prize 2025

Bhagalpur: Dr. Saurav Guha, a scientist from the Department of Statistics, Mathematics & Computer Application at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has been awarded the prestigious Cochran-Hansen Prize 2025 by the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS). His research paper, titled “Small Area Estimation Under a Spatially Correlated Multivariate Area-Level Model,” was recognized as the best submission by a young statistician from a developing or transition country.
As part of the award, Dr. Guha has been invited to present his research at the World Statistics Congress, which will take place from October 5-9, 2025, in The Hague, The Netherlands. He will receive the prize at an official ceremony during the congress. The IASS will cover his travel, accommodation, registration, and a short course, amounting to 1500 euros.
Vice Chancellor of BAU, Sabour, D. R. Singh, congratulated Dr. Guha for his outstanding achievement, acknowledging his dedication and contribution to statistical research. A. K. Sah, Chairman of the department and Dean of Agriculture, discussed future plans with Dr. Guha to explore international collaborations with the IASS, focusing on statistical applications in agriculture and rural development.
