Samastipur: The Centre has approved the construction of a four-lane road and a new bridge connecting Magardahghat to Muktapur in Bihar’s Samastipur district, a move expected to significantly improve regional connectivity and ease urban traffic congestion.
The project, sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, involves upgrading a 2.056 km stretch from Mathurapur to Muktapur ROB on National Highway 322. It also includes building a new 200-metre-long High-Level Reinforced Cement Concrete (HLRCC) bridge over the Budhi Gandak river. The total project cost has been pegged at Rs 58.60 crore, with both administrative and financial clearances already secured.
Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin expressed his gratitude to the central government for the approval, highlighting that the initiative had been originally announced by the Chief Minister during the Pragati Yatra.
As per the plan, the road from chainage 67.471 km to 69.256 km of NH-322 will be widened and reinforced. The current ageing screw pile bridge will be replaced by the new HLRCC structure, comprising eight spans of 24 metres each.
Nitin Nabin confirmed that the tender process has been initiated, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months from the start date. Once finished, the upgraded corridor is anticipated to ease movement between Samastipur and Darbhanga, while also offering major relief to the city’s urban traffic.
