Rajgir: In celebration of the eve of foundation day of Nalanda University, the SPIC MACAY Chapter of the institution hosted a captivating classical dance recital by the acclaimed artist Geeta Chandran. A recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Bharatanatyam, Chandran enthralled the audience with her performance at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium of the University.

The program commenced at 6 pm, opening with a mesmerizing Pushpanjali where Chandran showcased the rhythmic intricacies of Bharatanatyam. The audience, comprised mainly of Nalanda University (NU) students, were treated to a Varnam performance, where the nuances of classical dance were elucidated through a lecture demonstration.

The evening reached its crescendo with a soul-stirring rendition of “Vande Mataram,” leaving the audience deeply moved by the artistic brilliance on display.

Honoring the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of NU, Prof Abhay Kumar Singh, remarked, “Nalanda, the glorious seat of ancient learning that existed only in our nostalgic memory, is manifesting here in all its grandeur today again. We are fortunate to be proud participants in this historic event.”

Prof Singh emphasized the commitment of NU to fostering holistic development in students, encompassing values-based education, cultural exposure, spiritual growth, and artistic creativity. He stressed that such programs play a vital role in refining the artistic potential of students and connecting international students with India’s rich cultural heritage.

The SPIC MACAY Chapter organized the event on the Foundation Day of Nalanda University, drawing the participation of students from 32 countries. SPIC MACAY, founded in 1977 by Padma Shri awardee Professor Kiran Seth of IIT Delhi, aims to raise awareness about various aspects of Indian heritage and provide a holistic educational environment that inspires youth.

The NU chapter of SPIC MACAY has been consistent in organizing programs that encourage students to explore the intangible, subtle, and inspirational facets of India’s rich cultural heritage. On the eve of Nalanda University’s foundation day, this event provided a unique opportunity for students from diverse countries to immerse themselves in the glorious cultural tapestry of India.
