KVK Barh Patna, the community radio of Bihar Agricultural University, clinched the gold medal at the international Wave-2025 summit in Mumbai, triumphing over entries from more than 100 countries.

Patna/Mumbai: In a moment of global recognition for Bihar, KVK Barh Patna, the community radio station of Bihar Agricultural University, has won the gold medal at the Wave-2025 World Audio Visual Summit, held at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre from May 1 to 4. Organised by the Government of India, this prestigious event saw participation from over 100 countries and attracted more than one lakh creators worldwide.

Among more than 700 finalists across 32 categories, KVK Barh Patna emerged as the undisputed leader in the radio category, with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) taking silver. The winning entry, Apni Kyari, Apni Thali, focused on women and child development, blending traditional wisdom with grassroots storytelling. FM Green of the university supported its production, while folk artist Tarkant Thakur lent soul-stirring songs encouraging kitchen gardening across Bihar’s rural heartland.

The award was presented by Padma Shri Prasoon Joshi, Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, in the presence of dignitaries including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, actors Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, and TV Today Group Chief Arun Puri.

Adding to the honour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally interacted with the KVK Barh team during the summit’s opening session. Applauding their innovation and impact, he remarked, “A new era is beginning in India through Waves. Creativity is the antidote to global negativity.” The Prime Minister also sought details about the station’s programming and lauded its community engagement.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw extended his congratulations to the team and to Bihar as a whole, hailing the achievement as a moment of pride. He even joined the jubilant radio representatives for a celebratory selfie.

Speaking on the university’s historic win, Vice Chancellor Dr D.R. Singh said, “This is a proud moment not just for Bihar Agricultural University but for the entire state. Out of more than 100 nations, only our university was invited to represent India—and we brought home gold.”

 

The global summit also featured addresses by global industry giants including CEOs from YouTube, Amazon Video, Disney, and NVIDIA, alongside Indian industrialist Mukesh Ambani and music icon A.R. Rahman. Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan and other celebrities added star power to an event that reaffirmed India’s growing stature as a global creative hub.
