Bhagalpur: The city of Bhagalpur is on the verge of a striking transformation. After the Smart City initiative, it is now gearing up for a new wave of development through AMRUT Mission 2.0. With an investment of 550 crores, a comprehensive plan is in the works to lay sewage lines across the entire city.

This endeavor is set to bring three stunning new parks for the residents. Moreover, the beautification of ponds is also on the agenda. Bhagalpur City is already benefiting from the Smart City project, with significant improvements in its fundamental infrastructure and amenities. And now, with AMRUT Mission 2.0, the city is poised for further enhancements.

Bhagalpur has been chosen for the AMRUT scheme after its inclusion in the Smart City initiative. Seven proposed projects have received approval from both the central and state governments. To facilitate this, the Municipal Corporation has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and is awaiting approval from the state-level technical committee. These projects encompass the development of parks at three locations, rejuvenation and beautification of two ponds, sewage lines, and improved water supply in underserved areas, all of which will be executed under the AMRUT Mission plan.

Pond Beautification

In the vicinity of Marwadi Pathshala and near the Sandis Compound, the pond’s rejuvenation and beautification are on the horizon. This transformation will provide city dwellers with a recreational space. A pathway will be constructed around the pond, making it accessible for people to stroll and enjoy the surrounding beauty. The area will also be illuminated, enhancing its appeal with parks and boating facilities nearby.

Park Development

Merging four parks in Sector 8 of the Housing Board complex, a new expansive park will be created. Plans are being laid out to ensure facilities are incorporated to provide city residents with an enjoyable park experience. A consultancy DPR for this project is being prepared in Jharkhand. The technical team has already conducted site inspections. This park development will add an attractive dimension to city life.

Sewage Line Expansion

Efforts are already underway to establish a sewage treatment plant through the Namami Gange scheme. However, in the urban area, only the main outfall is being connected, leaving several small and large drains in poor condition. The 550 crores will be invested to lay sewage lines, connecting residential areas to the main outfall. The project will include the construction of pumping stations, ensuring comprehensive sewage management within the city.

Improved Water Supply

A survey was conducted ten years ago to expand water supply pipelines in the city. At present, many localities remain underserved. A plan has been formulated to invest approximately 250 crores to expand water supply pipelines, ensuring water reaches all areas that have been left out.The wind of change is blowing through Bhagalpur, promising an enhanced and improved cityscape. The investment of funds and effort will bring about a city that is both more connected and more beautiful, creating a vibrant space for its residents to thrive and enjoy.
