Bihar Boosts Cyber Forensics: Labs to Be Set Up in Patna and Rajgir, NFSU Transit Campus Also in Progress

Patna: As cybercrime methods evolve rapidly with technological advancements, the Bihar government is ramping up its cyber forensic infrastructure to stay ahead. In a significant step, cyber forensic laboratories will be established in Patna and Rajgir with the support of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and the National Forensic Sciences Laboratory.
The Home Department has directed officials to expedite the project through regular reviews and strict timelines, aiming to operationalize the labs at the earliest. These state-of-the-art facilities will bolster the state’s capacity in dealing with digital evidence, mobile forensics, network tracing, and data recovery—all critical in cracking modern-day cybercrime cases.
NFSU Transit Campus to Come Up at Hindi Bhawan, Patna
In parallel, the department is fast-tracking the establishment of a transit campus of NFSU in Patna, with Hindi Bhawan chosen as the temporary site. Officials have been instructed to initiate campus work within the defined schedule and ensure frequent monitoring of progress.
Sources within the department confirmed that dedicated teams are being assigned to oversee both the forensic lab and NFSU campus developments, given their strategic importance in enhancing digital crime investigation capabilities.
Action on Delayed Forensic Case Reports
The government is also tightening oversight on forensic backlogs. Cases pending for years at the Forensic Science Laboratory are under fresh scrutiny. The Home Department has ordered a comprehensive review of such cases and directed officials to submit detailed status reports. Officials failing to comply or delaying the reporting process will face disciplinary action, the department warned.
What the New Cyber Forensic Labs Will Offer:
- Digital evidence analysis
- Mobile phone forensics
- Network tracing and cybercrime tracking
- Data retrieval and recovery
These labs will be operated under the guidance of experts from NFSU, ensuring adherence to global forensic standards and cutting-edge technology deployment.
Government’s Push Toward Digital Security
The initiative is part of the Bihar government’s broader strategy to strengthen internal security systems and modernize investigative frameworks, especially in the wake of increasing cyber threats, digital fraud, and tech-enabled crime.
With cybercrime no longer confined to urban areas and touching every aspect of modern life, these forensic capabilities are expected to serve as a backbone for law enforcement in the digital age.
