Bihar Cabinet Approves ‘Bhamashah Samman’ for Top Taxpayers, Expansion of Jeevika Kitchens in Government Offices

The Bihar Cabinet has approved a scheme to honour the state’s highest taxpayers with the ‘Bhamashah Samman’ and cleared the rollout of Jeevika Didi’s kitchen across all district and block-level government offices.

Patna: The Bihar government will honour the state’s highest taxpayers and business contributors with the newly introduced Bhamashah Samman, a move aimed at encouraging better tax compliance and recognition of civic responsibility among entrepreneurs. The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal put forward by the Commercial Tax Department.

According to Dr. S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, the scheme seeks to incentivise greater tax participation by recognising those who pay the highest taxes under the Bihar Value Added Tax Act, 2005 and the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. Recipients will receive a certificate along with a cash award as part of the recognition.

In a separate decision, the cabinet also cleared the rollout of Jeevika Didi’s kitchen in all collectorates, sub-divisional offices, and block-cum-anchal offices across the state. The initiative, which will be implemented by women from self-help groups, aims to provide nutritious food to government staff and visitors while simultaneously generating consistent income for rural women.

“This initiative will not only ensure the availability of quality food in government offices but also promote sustainable livelihoods for women engaged in self-help groups,” said Dr. Siddharth.
