Bihar Cabinet Approves Land Acquisition for Expansion of Darbhanga and Raxaul Airports

Patna: The Bihar cabinet has approved the acquisition of additional land to expand and develop Darbhanga and Raxaul airports, marking a significant step toward enhancing the state’s air connectivity and infrastructure.

In a meeting held on Friday, the cabinet sanctioned the acquisition of 89.75 acres of land at a cost of Rs 244.60 crore for the transformation of Darbhanga airport into an international facility. Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth informed reporters that the state government would compensate landowners for their holdings, which will then be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the project.

The expansion of Darbhanga airport, which previously saw 76.85 acres of land transferred to the AAI in 2024, will include the construction of a terminal building, cargo complex, multi-level car parking, fire station, and other supporting structures. This development is expected to significantly boost air connectivity and benefit the Mithila region and its surrounding areas.

In addition, the cabinet approved the acquisition of 139 acres of land worth Rs 207 crore for the expansion of Raxaul airport, which will also be developed by the AAI. Siddharth noted that this project would bolster economic activities in the state, particularly in the Raxaul region.

Further, the cabinet gave the green light for acquiring land to develop industrial parks in multiple districts. This includes 1,243.45 acres in Vaishali district for Rs 1,001.92 crore, 504.52 acres in Sitamarhi for Rs 298.77 crore, and the transfer of 29.30 acres in Chanpatia, West Champaran.

These initiatives reflect Bihar’s focus on infrastructure development and its commitment to fostering economic growth and connectivity.
