Patna: Bihar is bracing for a further spike in heat as temperatures are expected to rise by up to 4°C in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The oppressive heat is likely to persist across much of the state, particularly in central and southern districts.
The IMD has forecast an intensifying hot spell, with daytime temperatures likely to soar above normal levels until at least Wednesday. Cities such as Patna, Gayaji, Aurangabad, and Bhojpur are expected to bear the brunt of the rising mercury, with maximum temperatures possibly touching or exceeding 44°C.
In Patna, residents can expect no immediate relief. The city recorded a high of 41.2°C on Saturday, and officials expect this to climb further. The IMD’s Patna centre stated that dry westerly winds and strong sunlight are fuelling the rising temperatures. Humidity levels may remain moderate, but the dry heat will pose health risks, particularly for the elderly, children, and outdoor workers.
No major rainfall activity is predicted in the region over the next 48 hours. A yellow alert for heatwave-like conditions remains in place for several districts, urging people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and remain hydrated.
Meanwhile, meteorologists have ruled out any early respite through monsoon winds, as the monsoon line remains stalled near the West Bengal border. The sluggish advancement of monsoon further compounds the ongoing heat stress in Bihar.
