Bihar Cabinet Greenlights Three Major Road Projects Worth Rs. 197 Crore
Patna: In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, administrative approval was granted for three major road projects under the state’s Road Construction Department. Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha hailed the move, describing it as a significant step towards achieving the government’s vision of “Prosperity through Connectivity.”
The approved projects include one each in Patna, Lakhisarai, and Chhapra.
The first project involves strengthening a 21.85 km stretch of road from Rampur (NH-80) to Shringi Rishi Dham Path in Lakhisarai at a cost of Rs. 44.91 crore. Highlighting the project’s benefits, Sinha said it would boost the agricultural sector and unlock tourism potential in the district.
In Patna district, the cabinet approved the construction of a road overbridge (ROB) between Dumri Halt and Potahi railway stations. Estimated at Rs. 109.21 crore, the project aims to eliminate traffic congestion and ensure safe and seamless connectivity.
The third initiative focuses on Chhapra, where a four-lane road will connect the Chhapra bypass to Chhapra Medical College, with an additional two-lane road on the eastern and western sides. The 3.4 km project, budgeted at Rs. 43.44 crore, is expected to significantly enhance transportation infrastructure and improve mobility for residents.
Sinha also highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to secure administrative approval for four additional projects, including the construction of RCC box culverts at various locations in Lakhisarai.
The projects, with a combined estimated cost exceeding Rs. 1.48 crore, include two culverts on the Suryagarha-Khaira-Mahsauni stretch, costing Rs. 28.73 lakh and Rs. 23.44 lakh respectively, an RCC box culvert on the left-out portion of NH-80 in Barhiya at Rs. 73.27 lakh, and a culvert on the Suryagarha-Salempur road at Rs. 23.44 lakh.
“These initiatives will not only address connectivity challenges in the respective areas but also advance the state’s broader vision of a developed and prosperous Bihar,” Sinha said. He emphasized that improved road infrastructure would drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and generate revenue for the state.
