Bihar Cabinet Sanctions Rs. 1032 Crore for Electric Buses under PM-eBus Sewa Scheme
Patna: In a significant move towards sustainable urban transport, the Bihar state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has sanctioned Rs.1032 crore for the deployment of electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. The initiative aims to introduce electric buses in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, and Purnia, benefiting more than 30,000 passengers daily and creating over 2,000 direct employment opportunities.
An official from the Transport Department revealed that Patna will see around 100 electric buses servicing city and state routes. The central government, focusing on green mobility and climate change mitigation, is promoting electric vehicles nationwide, with plans to roll out over 10,000 electric buses in 100 cities.
Initially, these electric buses will serve districts within a 150-200 km radius from Patna. The state capital is expected to receive about 150 electric buses, which will operate from the Transport Department’s Phulwari Sharif premises. After departing from there, the buses will reach the Bairia stand before setting out on various routes.
Under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, fares for these electric buses in Bihar will be approximately 20% lower than current city and state bus fares, offering significant savings for passengers on long routes.
This initiative marks a major step towards reducing the state’s carbon footprint and enhancing public transport efficiency, aligning with national efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable urban mobility.
